Senior Year Calendar 


July/August

 

q       Review your career plans and consider an interest concentration.

q       Finalize criteria for the colleges for which you are looking (i.e. size, location, curriculum, athletics, etc.).

q       Visit college campuses, schedule interviews and campus tours.

q       Narrow your college list to approximately 5-8 schools.

q       Request catalogs, admissions, and financial aid information.

 

September

 

q       Contact your high school counselor for registration materials and test dates for the SAT and ACT.

q       Attend College Fairs.

q       Create a list of important dates (standardized tests, college applications and financial aid deadlines).

q       Begin asking teachers, guidance counselors and employers for letters of recommendation to include with your admissions and/or scholarship applications.

q       Be aware of College Application deadlines!  The Guidance Office requires 10 school days for processing.

q       Discuss any Early Decision or Early Action plans with your counselor.

 

October

 

q       Take the SAT or ACT exam, if necessary.

q       Meet with admissions representatives who are visiting your school.

q       Work on admissions applications and essays.

q       Visit your top school choices. 

q       Attend special programs such as college fairs and financial aid nights.

q       Find out which financial aid applications your college choices require and when the forms are due.

q       Some private universities may require that you register for CSS/Financial Aid Profile at this time.

q       Check the Scholarship Bulletin for scholarship postings and apply!

q       Be aware of College Application deadlines!  The Guidance Office requires 10 school days for processing.

q       Complete all Early Decision or Early Action applications by October 15th.

 November

q       Complete your college applications.  Check with the colleges to find out when materials must be postmarked.

q       Check the Scholarship Bulletin for scholarship postings and apply!

q       Be aware of College Application deadlines!  The Guidance Office requires 10 school days for processing.

  

December

q       Take the SAT or ACT exam, if necessary.

q       Pick up a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) in the Guidance Office.  All students applying for financial aid must complete this form.  Begin working on it, but do not submit it before January 1st.

q       Parents should save their year-end payroll stub showing their earnings for the year.  It may be needed for financial aid eligibility.

q       Check the Scholarship Bulletin for scholarship postings and apply.

q       Be aware of College Application deadlines!  The Guidance Office requires 10 school days for processing.

q       Make a financial aid appointment with the Guidance Office for help in filling out your FAFSA forms.

 

January

q       File your FAFSA financial aid forms as soon after January 1st as possible.

q       Keep copies of all the forms you submit.

q       January is Financial Aid Awareness Month.  Look for special programs in your area.

q       Parents should have their income tax returns prepared early.  Schools may request them to prove eligibility for financial aid.

q       Check the Scholarship Bulletin for scholarship postings and apply.

q       Make a financial aid appointment with the Guidance Office for help in filling out your FAFSA forms.

February

q       Check to see if your mid-year transcripts have been sent to the schools to which you have applied.

q       Mail your FASFA if you have not already done so.

q       Check the Scholarship Bulletin for scholarship postings and apply.

q       Be aware of College Application deadlines!  The Guidance Office requires 10 school days for processing.

 

March

q       If you have not received your Student Aid Report (SAR) four weeks after you have sent in your FASFA, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800 4 FED AID.

q       Check the Scholarship Bulletin for scholarship postings and apply.

q       Be aware of College Application deadlines!  The Guidance Office requires 10 school days for processing.

 April

q       Watch the mail for college acceptance and financial aid award letters.  Compare the financial aid awards you receive.

q       Make your final decision and send in a deposit by May 1st.

q       Sign and return financial aid award letters.

q       Notify other schools that you will not be attending.

q       Watch for important deadlines at your chosen college (housing, financial aid, etc.).

q       Check the Special Senior Scholarship Bulletin for scholarship postings and apply.

q       Be aware of College Application deadlines!  The Guidance Office requires 10 school days for processing.

 

May

q       Return Special Scholarship applications by May 1st.

q       Make sure graduation requirements are met in preparation for clearance.
